Well hello there buttercup. How is your Monday going so far? I was planning to have a pretty crappy (literally) Monday.
I have decided to have another food sensitivity panel done, because I suspect that I may be reacting to some foods I wasn’t reacting to before (like possibly nuts). If you haven’t eaten a certain food in the last 6 weeks, though, your body will no longer have the same immune response to a food that they’re looking for in the blood test. Like for example, becuase I have celiac disease, I haven’t eaten gluten in many years, and therefore gluten did not show up on my sensitivity list because I hadn’t eaten it in so long. Since I’m doing a more detailed test this time that breaks down things like dairy into the specific proteins, that meant I needed to eat some dairy before I did the blood test. I assumed I would be suuuuuper sick once I ate some, so I wanted to make sure my choices were delicious and at least somewhat worth the pain. I went with 1/2 a slice of gluten free carrot cake with cream cheese frosting + a small scoop of butterscotch ice cream. HOT DAMN it was good. And I did feel like sh*t after eating it, because it was total garbage food, but not in the way I was expecting. No bloating, no mad sprints to the bathroom, nothing. So weird. I also got a Siggi’s yogurt because everyone is obsessed with them, and I figured this was my chance to try one, so I had the orange ginger flavor for breakfast this morning (which was bomb by the way, even though it had agave in it). And again – no digestive symptoms. WTF guys. I’m so confused. I do have a bit of a head ache, but I can’t totally blame that on the dairy, but that is it! My guess is since I haven’t eaten it in so long, that I don’t have as much of an immune response to it at the moment. So as tempted as I am to keep eating greek yogurt, I know I’ll probably regret it in a few days. But I’m pretty stoked to not be stuck in the bathroom all day! TMI, but whatever, you gotta take the wins in whatever way you can get them.
I hope your Monday is going equally as well! I decided to take a rest day today because my body is totally pooped from the last few days. Always remember that just because your insta feed is flooded with “Never Miss a Monday” photos – it’s okay if you need to rest. Listen to your body. Go hard when you can, but allow yourself the time to recover, too!
This weekend was a total blast. On Friday we went out to Taylor’s Falls, to the sentinel area to climb some cracks. There is a crack called Lost Ego here which I really want to lead on gear, but I had trouble on the last few moves last summer when I first tried to climb it. Even though I didn’t feel like I was ready to lead it this weekend, I got the last moves dialed in (which included a crucial ring lock, something I didn’t know how to do last year!) and sent the climb 3 times!! It’s my goal to lead it at least once this summer!
Then on Saturday, I participated in the Alchemy Great Race in near 100 degree temps. It consisted of a running race around NE Minneapolis, all while carrying a weight, with checkpoints along the way that you had to complete – including thrusters, planks, squat thrusters, front rack lunges, and burpees. It was so much fun! And we got some Lake State Kombucha after to celebrate – perfect Saturday!
After a few weeks of not beinng very motivated to climb, I’m feeling super stoked on it again. So my fitness routine will probably include more climbing, and less running/Alchemy workouts for a while. Which is OK! Remember that your workouts should be something you enjoy doing and want to be doing! And that can change over time, or switch back and forth between sports. Do what makes you feel happy, healthy, and inspired!
